The Alexander Residence 1960 - William Krisel architect. This was the custom family home built for Robert and Helene Alexander of the famed Alexander construction company. Look magazine visited in 1962 for a peek into the futuristic design declaring it the House Of Tomorrow, capturing a posh couple and their young daughter living their best lives in the spectacularly modern home. The spaceship-like dynamic winged roof line shelters four circular pods with the center of the house fanning out from the dramatic stepped waterfall. The entry path through carved-wood double height entry doors ushers you to a sunken party pad of angular stacked stoned walls, glass, and a low-slung curved upholstered banquet embracing a futuristic steel beaker shaped fireplace hood and floating hearth. A raised dining platform unfolds seamlessly through a wall of glass to the expansive exterior terracing, pool, and breathtaking mountain views. The adjacent kitchen continues the circular theme with a round center island featuring a twin of the living room fireplace hood, and an open concept design to a cozy family room with an expansive rock wall and fireplace just steps away from abundant poolside lounging and covered dining area under the deep cantilevered roof. Not to be outdone, a lavish primary suite is reached via a grand staircase to a private glassed perch featuring panoramic views. A generous dressing room/bathroom is concealed by original built-in wardrobe closets centered around a circular tub, and an intimate balcony is accessible allowing for a discrete observation deck. A bedroom wing completes the interior pod sequence and is reached via a long hall to laundry and a sheltered carport. All bedrooms, three lower and one upper, are en-suite, two sharing an exterior terrace. A thoughtful renovation with restored original architectural details of stone and poured terrazzo floors, bringing the house back to it's original intent and receiving a Class-One historic designation. This iconic house is in the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood and is the largest Alexander-built home with the largest pool and best lot. You can't get better than this. Elvis Presley celebrated his honeymoon here in 1967 giving it one of it's name's, "Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway"...
